Regular price $65.00La Côte Patriarche (French for "The Founder's Slope") is a heartfelt and thankful homage to Mike Sauer and David Lake MW, the visionaries, who planted Washington's first Syrah at Red Willow Vineyard in 1986. Red Willow has since become perhaps the most influential site for Syrah in the state, launching Washington's success with the variety and providing the inspiration and the plan cuttings for many vineyards, including our own La Serenne. That original 1986 planting is what today makes up La Côte Patriarche. Who knew history could be so delicious?

The 2019 La Côte Patriarche is dense and opaque in the glass, dark purple from rim to rim. The aromatics are typically deep: smoked meat and fresh cracked pepper join a brooding mix of blackberry compote, graphite and cedar. The palate amply combines power and freshness with pronounced tannic structure and a rich mixture of black and blue fruits layered with fleur de sel, dried nori and wood spice persisting into an intense and lengthy finish. This has many additional layers that will come out in the cellar and easily be enjoyed for 15-20 years.

Acclaim
In the same style as the La Serenne, yet just a bigger wine, the 100% Syrah 2019 Syrah La Côte Patriarche offers loads of black and blue fruits, cracked pepper, and smoked meat-like aromas and flavors. It's rich, medium to full-bodied, and powerful, with lots of tannins. The cellar is going to be your friend on this one, but it's going to have two decades of longevity from cold cellars. This cuvée comes all from the Red Willow Vineyard in Yakima Valley, was not destemmed, and spent 16 months in 60% new French oak.
