2017 Domaine de Pierres
SyrahRegular price $62.00
Domaine de Pierres (Field of Stones), is the newest addition to our family of single-site Syrahs. The Rocks AVA near Walla Walla is named after the softball-sized stones permeating the vineyards there, creating Syrah distinct from any other place in Washington State. Our affection for site-expressive Syrah led us here in 2014 when we purchased the Ancient Stones Vineyard and immediately got to work tilling the soil multiple times each year to expose the latent rocks. Each year we learn more about this exquisite site and we couldn’t be more delighted to share the delicious results.

Tasting NotesBefitting its unique origin in the rocks, the 2017 Domaine des Pierres immediately shows individuality with its dark ruby color. Penetrating and savoury, the fruit is exotic with kirsch, blood orange rind and raspberry surrounded by a familiar “rocks” bouquet of roasted meat, green and black olive, hoisin and fresh sage. On the palate, it’s dense, full-bodied and expansive, with a core of rich, black raspberry liqueur supported by notes of sea salt, dried rosemary and black tea. The tannins are fine-grained and supple with surprisingly bright acid that keeps the palate lively. This second vintage of Domaine de Pierres shows what makes “The Rocks” one of the most singular places for Syrah in the world.
Acclaim"A new wine from a vineyard purchased in 2014 (it was planted in 2006), the 2017 Syrah Domaine de Pierres wasn’t destemmed and spent 13 months in French oak. This thrilling Syrah offers a massive bouquet of black olives, tapenade, smoked black fruits, earth, and leather. Complex, full-bodied, and voluptuous, it’s a ripe yet balanced effort that shows classic Rocks character. Drink it any time over the coming decade." 96 pts - Jeb Dunnuck
